featured mom-preneur: Molly Snyder of Metropolitan Moms

by True Cuddles on May 3, 2009

Ahhh… New York.  One of the most facinating, lively cities I have ever visited.  My absolute favorite.

Imagine living there.  Amidst the hussle and bustle with baby… how would you spend your days?

Meet Molly.  Mom of two.  And founder of Metropolitan Moms, a guide of activities, and an offering of cultural classes for New Yorkers of all ages.  From gallery walks to cooking classes, Metropolitan Moms keeps your mind engaged and your heart enriched with the cultural mecca of activites and adventures the metropolis has to offer.  I think every city needs a “Metropolitan Moms”, of sorts.

Read on to learn more about Molly and be motivated to discover the treasures hidden in your own backyard!

We hope you find Molly as creatively cool as we do!

1. Tell us a little about yourself, your family, and/or your business.
I founded Metropolitan Moms in 2003 after my first child Sara was born.  Many moms (including myself!) feel a loss of intellectual stimulation when they are thrust into the baby world from the work world. The original concept of Metropolitan Moms, stroller friendly adult education at museums, galleries, and neighborhoods around the city, was to give moms the opportunity to learn something new without sacrificing time with their baby.  The business has since grown to include cultural classes for toddlers, preschoolers, after school classes and adult daytime and evening events and classes.

I have two children Sara (5) and Sam (2) and live with my husband and children in Tribeca.

2. If you had to describe your business in less than 15 words, how would you do it?
Cultural classes for New Yorkers of all ages.

3. What is your inspiration for your business?  Your products?
The goal of Metropolitan Moms is to enable New Yorkers, child through adult, the hassle free ability to take advantage of all New York City has to offer.  From gallery walks, to cooking classes, to neighborhood tours, to artist studios, the list is endless.

4. What is the most rewarding thing about being a mom? A mom-preneur?
The most rewarding thing about being a mom-preneur is the ability to work around my children’s schedule.  I work while they are at school and at night when they are sleeping.

5. What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a mom-preneur?
Make sure you have a profitable business model. Don’t listen to nay sayers- if you know in your heart you have a good idea- go for it!

6. What keeps you motivated?
All of the fun and exciting events and cultural activities in New York City.

7. What is your next big goal?
Expanding into the corporate and travel market.

8. What is your guilty pleasure?
Cookie dough out of a package

9.  Name a product that you can’t live without, for you or your baby?
The sit and stroll

10. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned as a mom {so far}?
To live in the moment, put the blackberry away and be present when you are with your kids. They grow up so fast and the early years are so precious.
